Services & Amenities
At UNC Health Johnston, we strive to provide our patients and visitors with a positive and comfortable experience. Not only will you receive excellent care, but you will have access to a number of services and amenities designed to enhance your stay. These amenities include communication items (phones, internet, television, newspapers) and dining/meal service.
We also have an on-site pharmacy to fill your post-hospital prescriptions.
Dining & Cafés
Choose from a variety of healthy meal and snack options at our food service locations in the Smithfield hospital, Johnston Medical Mall, and Clayton hospital.
Flowers, Gifts, & Cards
Individual florists deliver flowers to patient rooms. You can also send flowers or items from our gift shop. Give the patient’s name and room number to gift shop volunteers when making your purchase and they will deliver it to that patient. To mail a gift, write the patient’s name and room number on the package above the address for the Clayton hospital or Smithfield hospital.
We cannot deliver flowers to patients in intensive care or patients with certain health risks. If your mail arrives after the patient leaves the hospital, we’ll forward it to their home address.
If you’re a patient, take your outgoing mail to the nursing station.
Interpreter Services
If you or a loved one most often uses a language other than English to communicate, ask a hospital employee for interpreter services. Do not try to interpret medical information yourself.
Lobby Areas
When your loved one receives care, you may wait in lobby areas that have TVs, magazines, and newspapers. Feel free to use your cell phone in these spaces. You’ll find an ATM located on the ground-floor lobby of the patient tower near the public restrooms in Smithfield and just outside Café 42 in Clayton.
Lost & Found
To report lost or found items, call 919-209-3392 to reach the Smithfield hospital’s security office or 919-585-8080 to reach Clayton hospital security. To retrieve a lost item, you’ll need to provide your identification and an accurate description of the item. The hospital does not offer reimbursement for any lost or damaged valuables or medicines that were not given to the hospital for safekeeping.
Media & Entertainment
Keep yourself or your family occupied with:
- Books and magazines for children and adults at each hospital gift shop and the Spiritual Care Library, located on the first floor in the Smithfield hospital
- Free newspapers at stands in the main entrances of all UNC Health Johnston facilities
- TVs in each patient room with local and cable channels
Overnight Guests & Lodging
If your loved one stays overnight at the hospital, ask their care team if you may stay in their hospital room, which includes a futon for guests. For help finding a hotel, motel, or other lodging option outside the hospital, contact the Johnston County Visitors Bureau.
Spiritual Care
Get empathetic support and counseling from trained chaplains through spiritual care services—regardless of your faith background or beliefs.
