Jimmy Boykin

I’m Jimmy Boykin, a longtime resident of Johnston County. I've lived in Clayton, NC for over 30 years. Over those years I have had numerous experiences with UNC Health Johnston. I've been to both the Clayton and Smithfield facilities for procedures. I will tell you that being a patient at UNC Health Johnston is as much like being a guest there as it is being a patient. I have consistently received wonderful medical care and treatment. Beyond that, the personal care from the staff has always gone above and beyond.

Among my experiences, I've had bilateral hip replacements and shoulder surgery. Being able to receive orthopedic care close to home was so advantageous for me. When you are somewhat immobile, being close makes a huge difference.

I've also had excellent cardiac care at UNC Health Johnston. I’m working on my 4th pacemaker and defibrillator, and I am very pleased with the service I've received. Being a cardiac patient and able to get cardiac care right here at home has been a great comfort as well. It has been a blessing to my entire family, eliminating so much travel and drive time. And having been a design builder of medical facilities for over 25 years, I can tell you that UNC Health Johnston’s Cath Lab is one of the finest in the state. It is first class.

Nineteen years ago, my wife fought her first battle with cancer. At that time, she had to leave the county to get the treatments she needed. Seventeen years later she fought her second battle with cancer. But this time she was able to get every care she needed right here at UNC Health Johnston in Clayton and Smithfield. That was tremendous. When you are down and out and battling cancer the last thing you need is excess travel.

When we reach a certain age health care becomes so much more important to us. We have a lot of diagnostics that need to take place. We have procedures that need performing. We have regular checkups and X-rays. All those services are available to us on a regular basis, through UNC Health Johnston. We find great comfort in that knowing this level of care is close.

To be close to home with people who know you, care about you and give you that personal touch means more than you can imagine. From the time I checked in, to the time I was wheeled to the car to go home, the doctors, nurses, staff, and custodians have always given me so much caring and loving attention. I want to thank them, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, UNC Health Johnston!
