Whether it’s your final home or a short-term respite, the SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health cares for you and your family with comfort, grace and dignity. Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible, so your remaining time is peaceful.

Our patient rooms are private and spacious, with temperature controls, accessible bathrooms, large windows, a TV and a sleeper sofa. You will be comfortable in our homelike environment, which includes a full-service kitchen, large dining room, patio for relaxing outdoors, living room with fireplace and children’s playroom stocked with toys and games.

The purpose of hospice care is to help you be at ease in your final home with your loved ones by your side. You and your family can reflect, pray or meditate in our interfaith chapel and meditation gardens.

Conditions We Treat

Adults qualify for admission to the SECU Hospice House if they: 

  • Have a life expectancy of six months or less, verified by two physicians
  • No longer seek treatment to cure their illness
  • Need the level of care requested
  • Do not have tuberculosis

Services

  • General inpatient hospice care: This level of care is designed to provide short-term or crisis symptom management when medical or comfort needs cannot be met in the home.

  • Respite care: This level of care allows caregivers to have a rest while we care for you for up to five nights per benefit period. Room and board are included.

  • Residential care: Basic hospice care is provided for patients who do not have an appropriate home or caregiver. Room and board fees are the responsibility of the patient.

Location & Hours

We are located on Hospital Road, off North Brightleaf Boulevard (US-301) in Smithfield, less than a mile from UNC Health Johnston. Free parking is located in the lot in front of the entrance.

Visitors

You are welcome to visit a loved one at the SECU Hospice House anytime, day or night. You’ll need to request entry from 8 p.m. to early in the morning.

Pets also can visit if you provide a note from a veterinarian verifying the animals' health.
