Benefits of Swimming
When your children learn to swim, they:
- Gain a skill they can use for the rest of their lives
- Have less risk of injury than in other sports
- Improve stamina
- Learn how to prevent drowning, the third-leading cause of unintentional injury deaths among youths
- Prevent childhood obesity
- Strengthen their heart and lungs
Because water supports muscles and joints, swimming can especially help children with disabilities. Ask your pediatrician before starting swim lessons if your child has a medical condition.
