The Mobile Outreach Unit is dedicated to improving healthcare access by removing barriers that often prevent individuals from getting the care they need. By bringing expert care directly to the community, we aim to make preventive care more accessible, whether it's cancer screenings, heart health checks, or flu shots. Our mission is to meet people where they are, removing barriers like transportation and lack of insurance, to ensure that everyone in our community has the opportunity to live a healthier life.

We’re focused on creating partnerships with local employers and community organizations to reach those who need it most. Whether you’re already connected with underserved populations or looking for ways to collaborate, we invite you to join us in making a lasting impact.

What We Do

The Mobile Outreach Unit brings essential health services directly to the community, offering free services like preventive screenings for lung and prostate cancer, heart health, and flu shots during flu season.

We also provide free urgent care clinics for the uninsured five times a month, with hours that accommodate full-time workers. For clinic locations and hours, visit our events page.

Our work extends beyond screenings. We seek partnerships with local organizations, such as churches, civic groups, and employers, to amplify existing programs and create a greater impact. By collaborating with the community, we can serve populations already connected to support systems and ensure that services reach those who need them most.

Since our launch in 2020, we’ve participated in over 500 events, serving more than 10,000 people, with 85% from high-need areas. For more details on our programs like CATCH and back-to-school physicals, visit our scorecard link.

About

The past few years revealed a need for many things in the health care industry – more supplies, more hands, and more accessibility. With demand for all these things a little closer to home here in Johnston County, Dr. Eric Janis, Cardiologist, along with his colleagues at the Johnston Health Foundation, came together and asked the question: What more can we do for our community?

We now have our Mobile Outreach Unit bus that can reach Johnstonians all over the county and potentially beyond Johnston County in the future.
